I am a well travelled artist who fuses not only the cultures of my inspirations and travels into my work but also juxtaposition of form. There is a perceptiveness and playfulness in the subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, combinations of the symmetrical and asymmetrical. A viewpoint that sees the framing of order within the movement of disorder.

Frequent visits to India and living in Indonesia during the 1980’s gave me a love of Asian design and construction. As did living in the US and the Caribbean give me an appreciation for the Afro Latin Catholic culture along with Colonial European style.

In pieces that are worked in with fused glass, it is in collaboration with the glass artist Jenny Gregory of Leeds.

Childhood inspirations were the illustrations of Edmund Dulac and frequent visits to the artistic centres of Italy. Later, work of the architects, artists and artisans of the Arts and Crafts Movement, Art Deco and Bauhaus were my inspiration.

When possible, wood is sourced from reclamation yards. Besides the environmental aspects, there is a personality that comes through the timber as it’s history is uncovered by saw, plane and sandpaper.

Unfortunately reclaimed hardwoods are limited and so, when necessary, they are sourced through the off cuts of a local supplier.
